In ancient Greek mythology, Dionysus was regarded as the god of wine and pleasure. He traveled across Earth planting vines followed by a cult of debauchery. Those who drank the wine were considered sacred servants and were liberated from oppression. Because theatre festivals evolved around the celebration of wine, Dionysus became known as a patron of the arts. As a symbol of fertility and enlightenment, he carried a staff of giant fennel topped with a pine cone.
Pinecone presents a series of paintings made in support by award-winning Deovlet Wines. Soil samples from the winery's vineyards were processed into oil paint to create the palette and textures of each painting. Correspondingly, the exhibition includes a series of sculptures symbolizing legend and truths of the pine cone.
